In many ways this book is a continuation of that type of commentary. One of the great things about the book is that Richie provides plenty of interesting observations about the actual filming and reception of Kurosawa's films; since he was present for most of them. He focuses on the films themselves instead of relying to much on biographical information to show the real Kurosawa. He looks at all of his films regardless of their obscurity.
